Mastering the Basics of Hospitality

Years 1–2

The period for grasping the full picture of the front line

Through rotations across various departments — front desk, restaurant, bell, room cleaning, and more — learn the “omotenashi” (skill of hospitality) unique to a resort, guest-service manners, and overall hotel knowledge.

Goal
As a “face” of the front line, become able to meet guests' requests on your own.

Front-Line Leader · A Dependable Mentor / Leader

Years 3–4

Think for yourself and create positive experiences along with your colleagues

Plan new services and improve operations to delight guests, and as the “closest mentor” to new-graduate members, teach the work and offer advice.

Goal
Guide your juniors while keeping the team running smoothly.

Section Management

Years 5–7

Help drive the department and create a better environment

Build an environment where members can work efficiently in an enjoyable setting, and put improvement plans into action while reviewing figures and data. Move the department forward and create a better environment.

Q&ANew Graduate Recruitment — Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What are the advantages of joining “now,” during the rebrand?
A. Rather than joining an established organization, come experience the energy of a “founding period,” giving shape to new services. The experience of being present at this time of transformation will become a lifelong career asset.
Q. What do you value most in the selection process?
A. More than your current skills, we are more interested in you being motivated by new opportunity. We want to build the finest hotel together with people who can enjoy the new Marriott environment and embrace it with a positive approach.
Q. Can I become a contributing member right after joining?
A. You'll start with training to learn world-class fundamentals. Because there is a system for stepping up in stages, even those with no experience can confidently aim to become “a professional who interacts directly with guests.”
Q. Can I apply even if I can't speak English?
A. No problem. What matters is the desire to communicate. In an environment where guests of many nationalities gather, you can develop practical, usable language skills through your work.
Q. How busy is a day's work?
A. The hours when guests are concentrated are very lively, and the team's coordination is put to the test. We value a “professional way of working” that adjusts according to the needs at hand and moves efficiently with the ebb and flow of the work.
Q. How is my department assignment decided?
A. We decide based on your aptitude and preferences and balance those with the needs of each department. In any department, a valuable opportunity awaits to learn firsthand the operational know-how of one of the world's largest hotel chains.
Q. Is there anything I should study before joining?
A. Rather than special preparation, for now please make the most of the travel and experiences that only student life allows. That rich sensibility will help you understand the concept of “omotenashi,” which is both a necessary skill and vital in attending to guests as an employee.
Q. Can I actually live (save money and enjoy hobbies) on the take-home pay?
A. Because we provide a low-cost staff dormitory (10,000–15,000 yen/month, utilities included), you can keep housing costs down. You can put what you save toward self-investment or hobbies while living in an environment where you can also maintain a fulfilling private life.
Q. Can I work here for a long time?
A. From young staff to veterans, it's an environment where we respect one another as professionals.
Q. Are their ways in which we new employees can contribute to creating this new environment?
A. Very much so. Right now, just after the rebrand, there are no set answers. The fresh perspective unique to new graduates is essential to creating a new culture. We welcome you as a member who will think creatively with us, and together help to build a “new standard” of hotel hospitality excellence.
